about

The song was written for a friend who sadly lost a long battle with cancer two years ago, and deals with the advanced stage of grieving, after the immediate pain fades and you are left with a lingering ache to see your friend once more.

lyrics

The long winter turns to spring
Given time, and every cherished memory
A rich life lived on the wing
You still fly with those we cannot see

And though you’re long since gone
You still come to me from time to time

The tides will always have their way
On separate seas our ships were sometimes sailing
But when we harboured in the bay
We’d share our lives and it seemed we’d always have the time
Deep down we knew it was borrowed time
We always knew we’d run out of time

Now time has helped the pain to fade
and it became an ache dull and enduring
Regret becomes the sharpest blade

Though you’re long since gone
You still come to me sometimes my friend
I’m still missing you… my old friend
I’m still missing you… my old friend

The long winter turns to spring
The bittersweet blossoming of memories
